Great private experience of beautiful scenary.

Beautiful lodge and location, with sunset views from the terrace and dawn views from your cabin. Perhaps the best thing is that it's in a private area behind the main mountain group. Make sure you follow the local signs (not google) to come to the correct gate to get in (otherwise it's a 20 min confusing detour). After you arrive, you can get a key for the other gate, for easy access to the rock arch, art etc. The landscape is beautiful - very striking - the kids (and I) loved all the opportunities for great scrambling. There are fun outcrops everywhere - we could have spent longer. The dark skies are fantastic: Class 1 Astronomical darkness (you can see the shadows cast by the stars - obviously only when there's no moon). We took the guided Pontok walk in the morning, but actually I don't think you need a guide - if you are confident / competent scramblers. You already have access to the start of the walk as part of the lodge grounds. You're aiming for the "second Pontok". From the parking area, head for the col between the second and third bump (Pontok), the one filled with broken boulders. The path is marked with cairns, until the boulders. You can probably see where people have gone, but basically scamble up through the boulders to the col, then walk up the slab on the left to the summit. Return the same way. Go as early as possible as it gets hot by 10am even in winter. By being at the lodge, you have earlier access than anyone coming across from the park. We had a nice treat when we came down as there were some relatively tame plains zebra there that we could approach relatively closely, on foot. The only off note about our stay, was a rather odd "welcome", but maybe it was because we arived earlier than official check in, so we were met by someone who didn't quite know what he was doing; reception was oddly empty except when it came to collecting payment in the morning. Otherwise staff were great.

great to stay in Spitzkoppe

after a day drive we arrived to spitzkoppen lodge, which is very nice in the middle of the peaks of Spitzkoppe.
warm welcome and help with luggage to our tent.
what a beautyful view from the tent veranda.
great pool area with drinks and snacks.
for diner in the main house it was a great view and atmosphere.

Spitzkoppen is superb - the rock arch 'logistics' not so much.

Spitzkoppen was a highlight of our superb Namibian self-drive adventure. The accommodation was excellent, the dining area charming and well-decorated, the breakfast offering the best of our entire trip, and the sundowner views were exceptional. The quirky pool added to the charm. Staff made a special effort to make my birthday dinner special, and we once again had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with the owner, Elsa/Elsabe. An attentive poolside service (for drinks) is something they could include.
Our only disappointment was the experience at the famous Spitzkoppen rock arch. By late afternoon, it became severely overcrowded with busloads of tourists competing for photographs, which detracted greatly from the experience. Some form of managed access (albeit still free) or timed system would greatly improve this attraction. Note the absence of photos of the rock arch, as it was consistently crowded by an inconsiderate group of Teeny-Bopper-TikTokker-Tourists who selfishly each went in for their fifth round of my-myself-and-I-selfie-obssessed photoshoots, blissfully unaware of other humans waiting or the concept of common courtesy.

A great lodge surrounded by fantastic nature

We only spent 1 night in this great lodge, which we very much regret. The lodge is beautiful, nestled in great nature. The rooms are very nicely decorated and were very clean. The staff was very friendly and the food was super delicious.

Magical place in majestic setting. Stunning!

The lodge itself is very special. Operated by the community and designed to a very high specification. The individual accommodations each have stunning views and are of high quality. The surrounding rocky outcrops are very beautiful - especially at sunset.
A real gem.
